I go to the fuel station where I know I will have no problem getting in and out and it is convenient to the route I am taking. I look for Pilot/Flying J stations because I have the card so it is quick and I know if the trucks can go there, I will be fine. Peace of mind is important.
As far as RV parks go, I use RV Park Reviews to find an RV park where I want to go that is rated pretty well. I compare the choices (if there are any) and pick one. Many times I pick a KOA because they are where I need to be and they have what I am looking for. Some KOAs are very nice and we look forward to going back to them. Some are higher priced and some are not.
Everyone has different reasons for an overnight stop and that will dictate where they stop and how much they are willing to pay.
