We save our dryer lint. Stuff it into an empty dog food can - any can will work, but we have mostly dog food cans LOL. Then when we cook bacon, I pour the excess grease into the can on top of the lint. I am sure used cooking oil would work too. It is amazing how much grease a can packed full of link will soak up. When you are ready to start your fire, dump the lump of lint/bacon grease out into the fire pit, place some kindling wood around it, and light it off. The lint acts like a wick for the grease, and it burns hot for a remarkably long time, and things started off nicely.
