A camp host gave us some fire starter last year that consisted of a cotton pad (like cosmetic type) covered one side with Vaseline and rolled in a tube shape. It just takes one or two to start most campfires. Put it under the wood, light it and wallah. Very easy to make (can use cotton balls too but they are a bit messy). We have used this method several times since and it works. Cheap too :)
