When we were not full timers we got an extra receiver and left it in the RV. $6.50 per month. You can suspend it when you're at home (with limitations).
For local channels within 150 miles of home address we got local channels on DirecTV. When we ventured outside of the 150 mile radius, we scanned for locals over air. If you have digital TV's you don't need a converter box to get locals. If you have an older TV you will need a converter box to get locals. That's exactly what we did. Cheapest way to go.
Now that we full time we only have one account (an RV account) that gets DNS east coast and west coast affiliate (ABC, NBC, CBS etc) feeds from New York and LA. If we want "local-local" we still can scan the TV for them usint the over air antenna.
Some people have had problems getting DirecTV to change the service address to get locals when you're out of the 150 miles radius. They cite FCC rules.
