When we were young, and the kids were little, we would do the 1200 mile trip to my mother's place in Florida non stop - like 20 hours - kids would sleep most of the way, and DW and I would switch off driving.
Now we are older, and kids are gone, and we tow the trailer, so 8 hours the first day, and 6 hours or so from day #2 on is plenty. We are retired now, so it really doesn't matter too much - if the weather is bad, or the wind is wrong, or whatever - we wait until the going gets good ...
