I usually run between 65-70 depending on traffic and weather. Have pulled faster, but the truck sure does get thirsty!

I always think about safety. How fast I can / cannot stop in an emergency situation.

55 - 60 mph on good roads. Slower if weather is an issue. I don't let a fast moving traffic flow (or tight pack of lead footed maniacs) force me out of my comfort zone. I'll get in the slow lane, settle back to 55 mph and let them pass me like bats out of Hades.

I'm not retired and only get so much VT. The limit or 75. I roll because I want to see a lot of things and do a lot of things when I'm on my vacation.
One can get several more days of vacation in when on the road less and one of the ways to do that is drive faster.

On roads that have a 65mph speed limit, I tow at about 60-62 mph. That means I don't have to pass anyone. I stay in the right hand lane and allow others drive in the left lane and/or pass me.

Actually, I have found most drivers don't want to be behind a TT and will pass you regardless of your speed anyway.

At about 60mph, I get 8mpg and at 65mph I get about 7mpg. Percentage wise thats a lot (14% increase in mpg by dropping 5 mph). This gives me a little more range so I don'tr have to stop as often for gas.

I tow slower now that diesel is $ 4 bucks a gallon .
I set myself up to tow fast .
I use a 9200# gvw diesel on oversized michelin highway tires mounted on 8 inch wide wheels to improve handling .
I actually lowered my 4 x 4 hd 2500 to get better cornering .
I sold my bigger trailer to tow a 5300# 21 foot komfort .
I changed out my trailer tires to 106 mph rated LT tires in a bigger size to give me 9084 # of tire capacity to support the 5300 # .
I run 16 % tongue weight .
I still generally now cruise about 62-63 mph while towing .
But I have definitely gone 80 + when passing while towing .
Not often but I have done it .
Not even a hint of drama .
Before the flaming starts I also am an active sportscar guy with track and autocross experience .
I generally just go with the traffic .
But that does not mean that my modifications do not work in the real world on an unfamiliar curvy road at the end of the day when I get caught by surprise at that unexpected 35 mph switchback headed into that 7 % downgrade .

Just fast enough to not get a ticket.

True, a lot of states have a max 55 tow speed, however, in late 2011, I was stopped in NC for impeding traffic, I was going 51 (my old half ton). I pointed out that NC speed limit while towing was 55, the cop told me that driving that speed will cause an accident on I-95. I said OK and went on about my business.
