That pretty much says it all. The magnets when new have dimples on the face. If they are worn smooth its best to replace them even if they still work. If replacing the magnets, you might just as well buy new assemblies as the magnets by themselves cost almost as much a complete unit. Also get some heat shrink tubing and slide a piece over the wire before soldering. That will give you a less chance of a problem down the road.
Per David's instructions a new magnet is already a part of the backing plate.
