I spent 20 years in the US Navy, much of it in jobs that at times required me to depart with little notice. I've kept a week of clothes and a toiletry bag along with a weeks worth of medicine packed for over 30 years. I only had to make sure I had cold weather coat/gloves/hat handy. (Back when I was new at this, I was on a flight crew that went from Guam to the Philippines. We got tasked to go to Korea - it was January.)
When we went to RVing - I kept a weeks clothes in the trailer at all times. Including a spare coat, gloves, knit cap.
Now that we are full-timers - all my clothes, summer and winter, are in the rig. Though we have a storage near my son's home, we don't really swap clothes by the season. I do keep a bag in the storage packed with a weeks worth of clothes, one suit, one heavy coat. I also keep a similar bag at my daughter's house in another state.
My wife on the otherhand always seems to be without something.
As far as getting ready to go.
For household kitchen and other basic items. We've always kept the trailer stocked with the basics. When we were part-timers/weekenders, the only thing we really need to get was food.
As full-timers, we move the trailer between 40 and 70 times per year. Our trailer is a Chinese puzzle box where the recliners have to be moved and turned, certain things lined up on the floor, put the coffee maker in the sink, bring in the slides and make sure nothing is in the way, or can be shifted while traveling so that it would be in the way when moving the slides out.
A full pack/ unpack takes us about 30-45 minutes. Wish I had a rig with automatic leveling jacks. Actually I wish we could afford a Class A.
My experience over the past 4 1/2 years full-timing and traveling with many friends is that a Class A/ Class C is usually ready to move 15-20 minutes before any trailer - 5er or tongue-pull. Any rig with automatic leveling jacks cuts another 10-20 minutes off setup time. Not much on teardown/ get ready time.
