I think there's a generational element to some of these answers. Those of us working with limited vacation days are more likely to push hard to maximize time at the destination. A lot of times when we have a long drive I'll wake the kids up at 2:00 am and load them and the wife up and that way we can cover a lot of miles before everybody wakes up and we can pull off for breakfast. It just depends on the type of trip and what you're trying to accomplish.
