I relax when I reach the destination. If I'm relaxing driving there it would be time to turn around before even arriving.
I tried a relaxing drive to Alaska once, taking it slowly once leaving CONUS. Problem was, got to Alaska with terrible weather and wild fires.
Since I drove so leisurely I didn't have a huge surplus of days to wait it out. Just turned around and started the leisurely drive back. Canada was super expensive but the weather was great.
If I make the trip again I'll probably skip Alaska and focus on the Canadian Rockies instead. Mountains are just as beautiful and it's a week closer.
