RV's we've owned over the last 49+ years.
Not in order of ownership , the list is as I recalled them and wrote them down.
1 --- Georgie Boy 8' TC', our first TC and was purchased new in 1965. An early TC model but was a good one. Small tanks.
3 --- Lance Campers (TC's)--- still have one today - 11-1/2'- and love it.. Our last 3 have been Lance's
1 --- Badger TC 8-1/2' - 1970 new- made in Wiconsin by a family business in the 1970's. Vee nosed with 2 windows in cabover.
1 --- 11-1/2' Caribou TC - 1981 new. At 6 years old, the wood frame around the rear door was rotten and nearly let the door fall off. Part of the floor inside rotten by the door also. Manufacturer in Edgerton, OH who wouldn't fix it even if we paid. So an area RV dealer (Adams Campers in Muskegon took it in on trade and repaired it over the winter and then sold it in the spring.
1 --- Helmer's Custom Coach TC - 8' - purchased used. - This one deserves some words of explanation - Made locally by a small outfit from about 1963 till about 1969,.retired. All TC's were made to order. The builder/owner of the business was my uncle! He has since passed on. Very heavy and needed a 3/4ton min but excellent quality - 2 X 2 and 2 X 4 frame glued and screwed together and then covered with 1/4" glued/screwed marine plywood on both sides. Aluminum skin on all exterior surfaces. 4-1/2" roof and floor and 2-1/2" walls. Still seen the TC being hauled as of 2 years ago but never had a chance to talk to the now owners.
1 --- Popup 8' TC, new, a big mistake and sold it in 6 months!!!
3 --- Carriage 5th wheel trailers - 35', 36', still have the 29' Carriage Carrilite - won't part with it. Excellent quality!
1 --- Jayco 35' 5th wheel 1979 or 80 with the double slider patio door. Was parked at a CGmostly during the few years we owned it.
3 --- Allegro class A expensive " basement" motorhomes, all were gas - one 34' and one 35'', other one was a 30 foot.
2 --- Champion class A Motorhomes - 1 was a 33' Euro Coach - filon exterior delaminated in a couple areas and a bathroom faucet leaked bad - fixed under warranty. Other one was28' and no problems.
1 --- Lindy class C - 28'- terrible fuel mileage with the Ford 460 engine, like 6-6.5 mpg's, sold it and bought the 1st Champion.
2 --- Nomad Century TT's 27' & 30' - Were fairly decent but lacked enough insulation.
2 --- Jayco - TT's - One was a Jayflight and one was the standard Jayco.
1 --- 1978 Chevy Santana bubble top Van - Class "B" MH
3 --- popup trailers over the years. A blue vinyl canvas Skamper, a Venture with the yellow and green ugly paint colors we never got used to, and a new Colman 8' that we finally gave to our 2 kids to use.
I'm sure I missed a couple. Have to see if my wife can remember some I've missed.
Since 1970, we always had from 2 to 4 RVs at anytime. 1 or 2 of them was a TC's as we've constantly owned at least one TC since our first in 1965. No one RV type/etyle or size does everything best. Just need the right RV for the venture presently going on! That's why my handle is "travelnutz" Also Boatnutz!
ON edit:
Just remembered our hardly used 2007 26' Sunline Solaris TT we sold in August 2013, DUH! Were planning on leaving it in Florida in the CG lockup but changed our minds and will keep on pulling the 29' Carrilite 5th wheel down. More room and lets us stop at several friends areas on the way down and back. Wanted to pull one of our boats down as we miss not having a boat when down there now.
