Yup, we were that same way with our RV's. Started small (8' TC) and kept getting bigger and bigger with the TC's, TT's, 5th wheels, and MH's until we realized that we sure didn't need all the room and the hauling of half a big home behind/with us since the kids were grown and had their own homes/RV's/boats now and since about the mid 1980's. Now and for the last 7-8 years, we are constantly going smaller and more sensible with not having over a sleeping capacity for 4 and it gives us a heck of a lot more options of use of sites and/or even boondocking about anywhere we desire when we want. Grand kids go sometimes but only 1 or 2 at a time so we can devote adequate time to them rather than diluting and spreading thinly the time spent over half a dozen kids.
Our likely next move is to downsize from our 11-1/2' Lance TC to a 10' Lance 992 with it's big slide for a very roomy dinette to haul our 2500 HD enhanced to a 3500 HD SRW D/A truck.
An old adage well stated: Been there, done that! AND don't need to do that anymore! Just us two about 95% of the time anyway staying in the big TC or our other RV's or boats. The grandkids parents have their own and together "family" time is very short in years spent closeknit together...
