Clickies for your links
Here's a couple links that explain why which type of boat you take with you can mean life or death. Especially in open water areas but not reserved to only open water.
Record waves on the Great Lakes - Youtube
and
Gigantic Waves tall as 2 story house - seaeagle2ExplorerWe just bought a 12' Porta Bote with the intention of carrying it on a roof rack on the truck canopy. Our trailer is only 18' and there's too many vents, exhaust vents, fills etc to hang it on the side of the trailer. To Travelnutz's point, any water going conveyance has limitations, ocean going vessels have succumbed to waves, etc.

Some things are not a laughing matter but some are just too smart to listen or watch or read!

Go figure!
Your commitment to boater safety is admirable. Overconfidence, complacency and lack of situational awareness (including adult beverage induced) leads to many tragic incidences.
I think everyone agrees that the proper vessels, as well as proper safety equipment, should be used depending upon the body of water being utilized.
The OP just wants to see what people are taking with them. What type of bicycle do you ride(?).. doesn't need to led to a debate concerning helmet safety. Do you take a boat (?).....just that: - travelnutzExplorer IIIn the Great Lakes where thousands upon thousands of boats go to CG's with the RV's and there are many weather and NOA buoys that record and relay the up and down movement and all up to the minute other weather related data but that's not the norm in most other areas or on inland lakes or rivers. Only have to screw up once and hope it's not the last you can ever do. Probably enough said, carry on!

Can you please tell me how much was the porta bote? I go to their website and I have to send a bunch of information just for a price. I'm not sending my info for anything unless I'm going to buy.
I do not know the current prices.
I bought my 12 footer back in 2012 and paid right around $2K.
But I bought it at a boat show, so the price may have been somewhat discounted.

The wife and I did the COE lake camping/fishing just about all our adult life (since the late '40s).
We double towed our boats with three different 5th wheel trailers. Before the 5th wheel trailer came along we had truck campers and pulled our boats headin' for the lake orr the river.

I've seen traditional surfers on Gitchegumee and traditional kayakers, but not kayak surfing. - PAThwackerExplorerI take a 16 foot Prospector canoe with me. If weeklong I take my bass boat. Logistical nightmare to tow a camper and not have that bass boat.

You should be able to double tow it behind your RV. What motor are you running? I'm trying to decide if I want a new e-tec 2 stroke or go with 4 stroke motor that is almost 100lbs heavier.
He's off his meds again....:B
As soon as I figure a good way, I'll be carting the 14' Alumacraft along. Best fishing boat I ever had, no need to worry about dropping bait or spilling a drink. Take it home and wash it out with a hose.
