Thanks for the link - I've bookmarked it. I will definitely consider the 2V scenario as well. I was heavily favoring the 6x6V setup because of in case one of them fail and still having 12V power but I also ready from somewhere else that batteries simply don't fail often enough to consider this a scenario, as long as it is maintained correctly. So perhaps 2V path is ok as well.
