I think it's because of the way the tanks sit up against plate steel on two sides in the tank compartments on either side of the fifth wheel. It's just always wonky trying to get a reading with the tanks in the compartments and works much better out sitting on the ground. If I'm going to do that, the scales give me an accurate reading, anyway.
