Corporate income tax goes up and down too.
We all acknowledge one thing: In order to run a country, the funds need to come from somewhere. The allocation of those funds is always a hotly debated topic. One person might disagree that welfare is required at all while others might state that MORE assistance is required.
My personal opinion is that if you use the services, then you should pay or help out in some respect for using those services. I bet many people don't realize how much maintaining a fire or police force costs.
Of course some services provided by the government weren't "required" until recently and that may increase your taxes by itself :P
