During a press rebuild, yes, drop the calrode heaters back in, expand the rod, spin the nut off, let it cool back down. Not a big deal.
Here is a 105 ton straight side press for sale. It is even the actual brand we use to build before they went under.
V & O 105 SS Look on top of the press (crown) there are 2 very large nuts (round things) on the top left and right. Boy does that pic bring back memories... If the car industry did not take a dump in the ealry 80's and off shore throw away preses didn't flood the market, we might still be in bussness. Those all cast frame presses (class 30/35 iron) would run for 30 years, then rebuild em and go again. A lot of press builders went under since that press was made. Sad story of our machine tool industry.
