- mich800ExplorerI always wiped mine so there was always fresh no dirt lube every time. I also stored when when not pulling but many just leave them on.

- Dave_H_MExplorer IISlick idea there Lynn.
- Dick_BExplorerWe have used several layers of wax paper for years. Never got wax on my pants. We cover the ball with a vinyl cover made for the purpose. Don't know where we got it but Camping World has them.

My Equalizer trunion head and drop shank weigh about 60 lbs. I can just imagine the struggle trying to lock the hitch head into the ball with the trailer is disconnected. Think I'll try one of these instead cover
So while you are towing, you have another glob of grease to store?
Most places I go, I can get there on paved roads. The time I'm most likely to drive a gravel road is sightseeing while camping. I'm not sure any cover will keep all dust out. YMMV. - RAS43Explorer III

Get a tennis ball cut a hole in it smaller than the ball on the hitch, then cross cuts. Put it over the hitch. Not only will it keep the hitch clean but you can put grease inside the ball and every time you put it on it will put some grease on the hitch ball.
