How to meet RV buddies?

My parents are in the process of buying their first RV (excluding the pop up we had for about 4 years when I was a kid). It will be a Class C. My mom in particular would really like to find some friends to go camping with.

Where do your RV buddies come from? I suggested rallies or the North Texas RV yahoo group (they live in Dallas). I've been lucky enough to buddy up with fellow RV-ers through word of mouth, but I'm just wondering how else people make RV friends?
  • Take a walk through the neighborhood and lot for RV's. Stop and say hi.

Some work places have retiree's that camp together.
  • About all you have to do to meet fellow RVers is pull into a campsite. It seems like there's
always at least one well-meaning fellow who wants to make your acquaintance (and/or help
you park your rig "better") before you even get hooked up to electric.

Aside from that one annoying guy, your parents are going to meet dozens of RVers everywhere
they go. All they have to do it sit outside and say "hi" to folks passing by. Instant friends -just
add water or other beverage of their choice.
  • Check the Good Sam web site for the Good Sam Chapter nearest them. We joined the local chapter and we enjoy the monthly camp-outs with them. We pay $20 a year.
  • Just about any place you pull into. Just say Hi to anyone walking by. A little conversation and you discover something in common with someone, like a destination, and you end up meeting them there next month.
  • We used to go camping with our Church group or with Family. Now as full-timers, we may seem anti-social because we travel alone. Work schedule doesn't allow us to attend any local or annual Suite Rally's. Eventually, that's our plan.
