I love my combo w/d. I was without it for a season while DH tried to repair it and used Laundromats. My skin would break in hives and bumps out from contact with clothing washed in Laundromats.
We have the newest model now and it works great. Yes, the loads are small. And you do need full hook-ups (the gray water valve needs to be open so it can drain). But, hey, start a load in the am before you go out and it is done when you return. Start a load before you go to bed. Since the loads are very small, it takes seconds to put everything away.
Plus you know what has been washed in your own washer dryer.
