I do not doubt that many of these innovations will take place and have a big effect on our lives. However, unlike the presenter, I don't believe that everything will be rosy, some of the impacts will be negative.
- If far fewer cars, no need for oil, gas, coal, no need for taxi and bus drivers, and fewer mechanics needed, there will be far fewer jobs in those fields, which currently pay well
- Scarce resources will need to come from relatively few other countries, setting up a new OPEC situation
- If cars will be "computers on wheels" what happens to when they become hacked?
If life has taught us anything, it is that nothing happens without effects - both good and bad. I am not sure that today's "connected" world is better off than when we just used a telephone to talk to someone when we actually had something important to say or do.
I'm not a pessimist, but I do consider myself a realist. Along with the good, we will get plenty of bad. Such is life since Adam and Eve got thrown out of the garden.
All very good points. As well, within 5 blocks of us here there are 4 oil change places, 5 parts stores like Napa, Oreillies and at least 10 gas stations. A fair amount of empty real estate coming on the market. I think a 4 day work week is on the horizon.
