I'm sorry to be so contrary but, I do not want anything to do with things that have the potential to take away peoples mental alertness, navigation skills, sense of being an accomplished skilled driver.
The more electronics the more troublesome more control.
The future may hold that we become more skilled operators rather than skilled drivers or navigators. The sensing technologies may prove to allow for more proficiency of the vehicle's travel than can be inputted as a reasonably skilled driver. There is also the understanding that as vehicles become more autonomous that vehicle speeds may increase and that vehicle spacings decrease. This is one goal for pushing rush hour traffic more efficiently than is typical today. The sensing technologies are better at perceiving speed of adjacent vehicles than a driver. It may come about that lane restrictions by sensing come about where there are dedicated lanes where our autonomous vehicles all drive in lock-step at higher speeds. Entering or exiting these lanes will become automatic, also, the vehicles communicating with each other to allow for smooth transitions.
