Has anyone installed a humidistat in their RV? It is a fairly common practice in areas of high temperature and humidity to install a humidistat in-line with the AC thermostat of a residence that is left vacant during the summer. This only runs the AC during high humidity, high temperature conditions to prevent mold growth. In low humidity conditions, the AC remains off. Since my 5th wheel is stored under power at my residence in Florida, I'm wondering if this is a reasonable thing to install. Has anyone tried this and were there any pitfalls or bad experiences?

OK, nearly sixty viewings and not a single comment. Guess nobody has experience with this. So, has anyone experienced mold growth in an RV stored in hot humid conditions? If so, what did you do ?

Dometic had a humidity setting on the new 12 button CCC setup, but it wasn't popular, so they ditched it. IIRC, Carrier had a "Dry" setting as well. Most people I know use a stand alone de-humidifier, routing a drain hose, and yes, I have seen more than my share of mold and mildew :)

I live in South Florida and I have never had a problem with mold in my trailers when closed up in the summer. I was in the a/c parts business for 25 years and we sold humidistats mainly to expensive home owners who were snow birds and had expensive furnishings inside the house.

It’s a great idea and I know a lot of snow birds say the use then in their mobile homes in south west FL…

But if you have no one to check on the property and that everything is in working order maybe just some protected open windows for ventilation would do ok…

It should not be a hard thing to do. Go to a heating a/c company and buy or get them to install a humidistat in line with the thermostat that controls the A/C unit.

I have a humidastat in my Florida park model while I'm back north in the summer time. It's cheap to operate, only about 4 kwh a month on the electric bill.

I would think a dehumidifier would be a fine option...

Sounds like a great concept, but maybe it's not all that available (maybe not at all for a camper?) and thus your limited response?

It is definitely a regional thing. :)

Makes sense because you are in MI. If you want to see them attached to the A/C, as the land salesmen used to say: "Come on down!" :)
