Yes, U.S. 2 is a good route, but I would not drive it. I think the last time I did was in about 1961.
If I'm in a hurry, my preferred route is I-90 to Missoula, then U.S. 93 to Kalispell, then U.S. 2 to West Glacier.
If I am not in a hurry, my preferred route is I-90 to St. Regis,then MT 135 to MT 200, turn left towards Plains, then take MT 28 to MT 382 (one can also turn right on 200 to Perma, then take 382 North). 382 joins Hwy 93 at Big Arm on Flathead Lake.
It is a much more interesting drive than Hwy 2, IMO.
I used to live in the Flathead Valley, and drove that route many times.
