I don't know much about workamping but....

I may be interested in offering a position for a person or a couple. No children, a pet could be OK.
I have owned and managed a small RV park in Catemaco, Veracruz, Mexico for going on 12 years. No big deal and as I am sure you might understand, not too busy.
The property is enclosed and staffed 24/7
Duties would be keeping the two bathrooms tidy, skimming the pool and likely vacuuming the pool once a week or so. I figure 2 to 3 hours a day at max., 5 days a week.
Give me a bit of insight on how this whole thing works.

  • We would have definitely been interested in this! BUT -- it is too far down for us... we were actually hoping to only go half that far.

We have been working jobs where we got site/full hookups and payment -- but they were a lot more hours.

I bet if you start advertising -- only couple hours a day work someone would be glad to pay their own electric and you never know if you don't try. Perhaps also offer them opportunity to keep RV there year round for only the 6 months work. OR voucher at restaurants etc i.e. discount. Trouble is this post was already buried so you got to keep at it.

Try other forums/websites as well -- here is one that is free http://www.snowbirdrvtrails.com/workkamping.htm

    Good Luck!
  • Not sure how your park does elec, but you might offer site with elec being paid by workkampers and few hours of work. some folks might be interested in having site free and pay their own electric, to work less hours. I know I will be fulltiming and doing workkamping in a few years, and don't intend to work over 30 hours a week and actually prefer less. I am not retiring from a career where I make much more per hour to go to another full time job. I will likely do more volunteer hosting with state and natl parks, so that the hours are more likely what I prefer.
  • thanks to those who have written, by this public forum and by private message.
Since I am in Mexico, things are not the same as up North. You will get a 6 month visa and up to a 10 year permission on RV's. Unless you decide to go for a more full time visa.
I am thinking 6 months, beginning the second week of Novenber. It would give me 6 months of on site help and you 6 months of warm weather in Mexico. Details will be coming and a formal type post in the next month or two.
    Take care
  • Thank you for the responses. It does give me a better idea of what a workamper expects to have as duties.
A free site was always in the cards but the electric usage is a huge problem. We are located in Mexico, on the edge of the rainforest and not more than an hour or so from the east side of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
I have had RVers who had their AC on high when the temperature was 76 F and commercial electric is not cheap.....along with the temps being in that area 10 months a year during the day. Night time temps are in the mid 70's to upper 60's 10 months a year. I really can not come up with an idea to include electric usage.
ultimately I am thinking a retired couple who wish for something to help give them a few duties but also have other interests like fishing, exploring and just walking around town.
Like I said, this is a new idea and who knows if it will work out for me or anyone else.
  • Here is a position for a couple in the UP of Michigan for 4 months. You can see how much they are asking and what they are requiring the couple to do.

    UP workampers
  • Usually, and this depends on the facilities. but usually the couple is asked to work around 20-30 hours a week each in exchange for a full hookup site. Some places ask for more or less but that is the general idea. Some will offer propane also. There are also the places that will pay you for all hours worked and charge you for your site plus electricity. To make it work for you, you might try and come up with some more jobs, painting, cleaning, mowing grass are all jobs we have done.
