Wow, so much hate for power awnings! :B I've had a couple of both, manual & power, and I will never buy another rv with a manual one; but that's just me. :E
My last two have been powered. I've tied down my power awning on occasion but if we will be away from our campsite for any length of time or if the weather is iffy from a storm perspective, I always pull it in; the same as I did for my manual ones.
I just find the power ones to be so convenient. Mine both were tiltable and the one I currently have really tilts far down (at either end). Actually I can tilt it to the point that I can't open the trailer door. I also can simply retract them without straightening out the tilt.
I guess to each their own but 'I love my power awning' ! :C
