I can state with certainty that you've definitely understated what's involved in extending and retracting a manual awning.
Either he has an exceptionally well-designed, smoothly operating manual awning or we have an exceptionally stubborn one. Flipping a lever? That's the least cooperative lever I've ever had to flip. If there's something we could adjust to make it easier, I'd sure like to know what it is.
And eventually the pawl and dog system the lever operates wears out. Changing one can be an experience with all that spring tension.
In truth. the awning will wear out before the lever does. As for flipping the lever. I simply use the wand when it is rolled up, and when I want to roll it up. I simply pull down on the awning to relieve the pressure, flick the lever, and let er roll.
so try pulling down on the awning while flicking the lever, much like rolling up a shade.
I can have my awning out, and sitting under it in less than a minute. Just about the easiest part of setting up, or breaking camp., And to be honest. There are enough wimpy things in life, without the awning being one of them. I need it out to keep my stuff dry.
