Do you feel that you are heading into "survival mode"? If so, you need to consider some factors:
1. Access to medical care
2. Lower cost of living
3. Climate
4. Available part time work that will supplement your income
OK, now that the survival issues have been addressed, what do you enjoy in life? All work and no play makes John/Jane a dull person. Make sure you can do it where you will be living. If snow skiing is your thing, you should probably rule out Florida.
Lastly, what is the max that you want to pay for rent/utilities? Overlay that with the above information, and you'll have the start of a good plan.
