Personally, I don't like to camp near people with all that cr*p and the attitude that goes with it, but I also don't think it is reasonable to expect the average person to think about electricity beyond 'plug stuff in until the circuit breaker blows'.
In my business, it's rare enough to run into someone who understands what to do when the breaker DOES blow; flip the switch and plug in one less thing. Most people just think of electricity usage as infinite, are not aware that some devices use more power than others, etc., etc.
And I am pretty sure MULTIPLE breakers should have blown before that pedestal caught fire, right? One or more on the pedestal, maybe a subpanel, the main breaker for the cg... I don't know who the heck was doing their wiring. Unless the bad transformer caused some sort of weird surge. Can they do that?
