In 59 or 60 my family went from NY to Ogden in a Plymouth wagon. We set up camp on the side of the road or wherever. We were at a fairgrounds in Lincoln, Nebraska, and got blown out by a storm, spent most of the night in a public bathroom.
My father hiked all the peaks in the Adirondacks. Mom and the kids would stay at camp, usually Harris Lake, while Dad and one kid chose by some unknown criteria climbed the mountain.
Ten years later I had an old ford MR. Chips van 30 gallon drum for water, hammock strung up for a bed, and a tiny pot belly stove for cooking and warmth. After my voyage of discovery the USMC introduced me to shelter halves and sleeping in mud puddles.
We had a class C late eighties into the nineties. Dodge chassis, thing was more problem than not.
Now we are finish up with a compact easily handled HTT. Probably be our last.
