I remember as a child when we so looked forward to our annual 2 weeks tent camping trip to the State Campground a full 12 miles away from home. It was close enough so Dad could return to tend the farm daily but for us kids it was the best of adventures. We met kids from all over and found there really was life existing beyond our small town. It instilled in me the wanderlust that still burns as bright some 60+ years later. It was the earliest of tents and pup tents, a canvas tarp roped to surrounding trees for a dining fly (with a stout tree branch mounted on the picnic table for proper drainage), the many trips to the nearest spigot for water, the swimming, the fishing and the nightly campfires. We were Kings of the World for 2 weeks each year and making memories to last a lifetime.
