I have been camping with my parents for as long as I can remember. Here's a Mom- and Dad-centric view of then and now as I am still blessed to be able to camp with them a few times a year.
Then...
Waiting impatiently at home for Dad to arrive back at the house having dropped the first load off at the first-come/first-serve national forest campground 30 minutes away..."we got our site!"
Now...
Loading Mom, Dad and all of Mom's oxygen gear into the Durango to take them camping at my seasonal campsite about 2 hours away
Then...
Smelling canvas and fighting the poles as I helped my Dad and brother set up the tent.
Now...
Raising the awning, unlocking the door, turning on the water/AC/hot water heater, unloading the concentrator and getting it going, then getting Mom and Dad settled in so I can unload the car.
Then...
sitting around the campfire making s'mores and telling stories
Now...
sitting around the TV (Mom can't take the campfire smoke) talking about sitting around the campfire making s'mores and telling stories "back in the day"
Then...
riding my bike through the campground as soon as we got the "Go play" signal from Mom after the site was set up
Now...
riding my golf cart through the campground after I have tucked Mom and Dad in for the evening
