Wonderful posts, thanks for starting the thread.
Grew up camping with Boy Scouts in the 60s, old canvas tents, tarps, coleman stoves and lanterns (be careful with the mantles). To traveling with the family, Mom, Dad, up to 8 of us kids (there are 10 of us, but age spread kept all of us from camping at once. VW bus 9 passenger, maybe 65 HP, going from Chicago to Denver to visit our uncle and his family. Sandwiches by the side of the road for lunch, tent at night. Dad made a huge car top carrier for the bus, took 4 of us to lift it up, 3/4 plywood. After Denver driving north to go through the Black Hills. Stopped at Horsetooth Reservoir in northern Colorado, hadn't rained in forever. Camped on the beach with the bus there next to the tents. We broke the drought that whole trip. It rained so hard that night the water was flowing through the tent. My brother's sleeping bag filled up like a water balloon. Next morning fought to push the bus out of the wet sand. We went through the whole two weeks visiting, stopping at Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. What do i remember? Horsetooth Reservoir.
Graduated through most levels of RV's now, but still love getting out and being with nature.
