I remember camping using bicycles as transportation.
One of our favorite dishes was a London broil marinated in a half of a bottle of Italian dressing during our ride. I'd place it in a new fangled ZipLock bag, stow it in a pannier with nooo refrigeration and cook it over an open fire when we got on site. Sometimes we'd eat it w/ramen noodles (even then I dinna like the sodium content of the flavour packet so into the garbage it went)and sometimes it was served with a salad.
I remember 2 adults and 2 children sleeping in a pup tent afraid to touch the walls during a rainstorm cause we had no rain fly (weight concerns).
I remember the strain of my leg muscles at the end of the day and the joy of laying by a campfire, talking with neighbors, drinking cheap wine, listening to music supplied by the tinny sounds of a transistor radio or singing along to an acoustic guitar.
I remember the ex using someone else's Coleman stove to make a pot of espresso, and thinking how wonderful it would be when we had our own stove.
Those were different days and I enjoy the memories.
