*Bank account number----Your bank will probably require this number when it sets up your online banking, as will any credit-card accounts you set up with automatic payments from the bank account. After that, no other sites should ask for or need this information.
Oh poo, when you write a check, you give out your bank account number and the routing number. It's just an address in the banking system. - Dog_FolksExplorer

What possible information is there that you are worried about? No one in their right mind has their ss# on their dl..........
"Use of the SSN in State drivers license systems is already authorized by Federal law, and 29 States currently use the SSN as the drivers license number or show it on the license." - westernrvparkowExplorerI can speak from personal experience that running an RV Park as a front to steal people's identity is too much work.
OH, and all that effort people put into making sure their credit cards aren't compromised such as writing "see ID" on the back is worthless. We go through the exercise when we see it on the card, but 99% of the time the picture on the driver's license looks nothing like the person standing in front of me. Good lord, my credit card processing system has captured your card information when you check in. If I wanted to buy a Ferrari with it, I have all the information I need. All the other hoops just waste your and my time. - mich800Explorer

Why would you give your Drivers License info to some clerk who already has your credit card info. Now he has your home address and other personal information. What possible legal requirement can justify his demand for this information? Don t do it, you WILL regret it if you do.
No, they have a credit card presented for payment with no verification that individual is authorized to use that card. A credit card is not identification. - 2oldmanExplorer II

I can remember writing paper checks at the grocery store and they would ask for and write my drivers license number on the memo line and I never thought twice about it. They had my name address and DL number they might as well of had a copy of the DL. - discovery4usExplorerI can remember writing paper checks at the grocery store and they would ask for and write my drivers license number on the memo line and I never thought twice about it. I do not see the need for them to have a copy of the DL but I don't think it would keep me from doing business with them. I would guess that most identity thieves probable pulled off the identity theft with out a copy of the victims DL. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIPer CC agreement between CC company and Business ALL they are supposed to do is verify your signature.
- CroweExplorerThat works for me. Basically debt free.

7 rental cars......
Sorry, but to be true they had to have your credit card too. As a principal with three nationwide rental car companies, I can tell you they do not check numbers with DMV, but do have to have valid credit cards in the same name which are checked with the cc provider before the keys are handed over. Not getting the whole story here?
:B
Well as I travel for work, I don't even stop at the rental car counter, just go straight to the car. Only issue is making sure it is on the correct card for the type of travel business or pleasure. :S - Sam_SpadeExplorer

Having had ID fraud occur in the last year, I would ask them to block out the DL and DOB on the photocopy and verify it by showing me the copy. You never know where it ends up.
Even easier than that, tell them they can write down any information they want from the license but can NOT make a copy.
That is what I do and almost never have a problem with it.
Copiers are too good these days. It might be REALLY hard to tell a color copy from the original.
