Big if and not so important to builders today as they cannot keep up with demand anyway, probably a good reason today's RV's have so many issues.
Most every other industry in this country today, prides itself on quality, not the RV industry. Too bad really.
Someday it will catch up to them, like it did in the 80's when the market went bust and probably 50% of the manufacturers went out of business.
Already may have reached the tipping point, wholesale shipments in May dropped 1.7%. That's the first dip into brackets since about 2009.
When they took the dump in the 80's, twice by the way, all it took was a 13% drop to cause the entire Industry to implode. Starting in 2007 it went south at 9.7%, then 33% and another 30% in 2008 and 2009.
Hence the holding companies and their massive market share, and in turn the absolute garbage you see on dealers lots. Thor and Forest River hold at least 85% share, and its certainly going to be fun to watch them implode again. They know its only a matter of time, so the business model depends on pumping out as many as possible and taking in every dollar possible. The quality of what is produced and retaining customers is not even on the radar.
Thor and Forest River will ride the next bought of diarrhea out, but you'll see brand names go away because the individual brands are all structured as individual companies. Winnebago is in the hot seat next time, they just might not survive and at best would be absorbed by Thor or Forest River. Even with Winnies acqusition of Grand Design they only have maybe 5% market share, probably not even that.
