I've never "rented" any of my travel trailers, but we did let my in-laws use our first one for a week. I drove the TT to the state park they wanted to go to, I set the camper up for them, I gave them instructions on how to dump the tanks, etc., and then left them for the week.
One week later I came back to break camp. They packed up all their personal belongings in their car and had cleaned up the trailer. I hitched up and drove the camper back home. This worked out pretty good. Because it was the in-laws and they were older and "family", I think they were careful using the camper. Still, it was uncomfortable letting them use it, it required a lot of trust, and I decided we'd never do it again. The worry was just just too much.
And by the way, within a year they purchased their own camper.
Would I do it again? Maybe for family, and only if I towed the camper and towed it back back home. But to turn it over to a total "unknown"... I don't think I ever would. Now, if I wanted to make a business of it, buy a bunch of older RV's, I have no sentimental value in, it might be a different experience. But, this isn't for me or my lifestyle.
Edit: after thinking about this... actually, I have some family members I would NOT let them have a used Kleenex let alone my camper. Others would respect with high esteem and I could trust them.
