I obviously like dogs too, having large breeds aside from my very first being a Beagle mix when I was a little kid 45 years ago.
Dogs are pack animals. The typical pet wants nothing more than to be with their family who functions as their pack. Our old GSD likes nothing more than all 4 of us plus him stuffed inside a no-slide 24' Class C, exactly as we are this weekend. He is never left alone either. Someone is inside with him, or out and about on a leash. Properly supervised and attended to 24/7.
And I did find a couple of small spots where he's missing fur on one of his front legs. A close check there shows no broken skin/scabs. He's not worrying the location so he is OK. I had him outside with me early morning while I had my coffee under the awning, and he's definitely more wary/aware of things going by. It's going to be awhile before his personal Defcon 5 goes away.
