- rvtenExplorerBeen behind semi's with doubles that wiggle going down hill or in strong cross winds.
Bet this one will also. Even more. Give him a wide berth. - coolbreeze01ExplorerCan be a challenge getting all the toys to the sand box. Thumbs-Up to the customer and vacavalleytruck, well done :C
- dogwood36322ExplorerMost states that allow this type of towing require dissimilar hitches, fifth wheel then ball or pintle. I have seen this in our state as weel but it is illegal here.
- nevadanickExplorerHere i copied and pasted it.
You are right about the 65 foot maximum length limit. You may tow 2 trailers with bumper hitches, as long as they have sufficient strength capacity for your trailers...Meaning the hitch between your "Power Unit" (truck) and trailer #1 needs to be strong enough to pull both trailers. The guy in the video said "he's licensed properly so it's legal in California". I've seen something like that once in California a while back. Don't know the law on this but I wouldn't try it. - Re_and_CherylExplorerI am a truck driver and have seen this many times, normally it is a smallish boat they are towing behind the trailer. Believe it or not it is legal in almost every state as long as the combined weight is not over the CGVW of the tow vehicle. That said. It is not smart, towing doubles should be left to truck drivers. I can not tell you the number of accidents I have seen involving RVs of all sorts. Most of which were caused by a lack of experienced driving something of the size and weight of their RV rig.
Re' - dodge_guyExplorer IISome if you really want that slinky of a setup behind your truck?! No thanks!
I think i can swim across the ocean also. Doesn't meen that i am stupid enough to try! - elkhorn98Explorer

Towing behind a bumper pull is legal in many states including Ca. Ca has a 65ft max length. I pull a 28 TT and a 12ft enclosed trlr behind the TT. I am too long for Ca so i avoid going there.
Been in law enforcement over 30 years in Calif. the first towed has to be a semi- trailer with a fifth wheel hitch if you want to tow doubles. I can promise the CHP who passed him wasn't a commercial enforcement officer ( the ones in the pick-ups). To tow doubles you also have to have a commercial drivers license. Not every officer on the road knows every applicable section that constitutes a violation.
You can go to 75 feet if you are towing with a tractor, and both trailers are 28.5 feet or less. There are some other exceptions over the 65 foot limit as well.

I have heard that the first trailer has to be a 5th wheel in Ca but all the regs just say trailer. Do you know where it says it has to be a 5th wheel?
Looks like non residents don't need a cdl if their state doesn't require one.
