Many of the people that RV camp live in big cities. In the dark of big cities bad things tend to happen so people are conditioned to think that they need to light areas up to be safe. I have camped in the local So Cal deserts with friends and a little light adds a little security in the late night. I have truck camped way out in the desert and the quiet, stars and the sound of coyotes is cool but that's because I was so many miles from other people I knew there was no human threat.
