You are no safer in Manteca then you are in any of the other cities in that Sac to Bakersfield corridor. But, if you're a "Jake" type, you should be able to take whatever comes. After all, he owns the world. There should be a perk or two in that for you."
I never said I stop IN Manteca. Actually, when I head that way, I stop for fuel in Nevada, then stop at the Delicato Winery tasting/sales room, then stop at the Flying J in Ripon, then don't stop again until I reach my destination South of Fresno.
