indoor insects.....OUCH!!!!!!

Hello there fellow rv'ers. Got a spider problem I need help with. Normally I'm used to spiders and snakes as you can tell by my user name, but things are getting out of hand! Normally I don't complain about the occasional bug/mosquito bite. However...like I said, things are getting out of hand. In the past week I have been bitten (painfully) by indoor spiders of some kind four times. These are class "A" spider bites, the ones that are painful, swell up, and if scratched will erupt into painful blisters. Now before I am attacked by you many nature lovers let me say I'm all for live and let live but when I get attacked for no good reason, minding my own business, I'm going to protect myself and the ones I love. Which brings me to my question....how? I bought a rig that is shall we say mature in age by about 20yrs. My wife has cleaned and sanitized this unit with in an inch of it's poor life. However we continue to have these bites. Do I hire an exterminator...witchdoctor or what?
Please help,
  • Living on a lake, we get spiders galore. I'm also a fan of Ortho's Home Defense spray - it lasts all summer and really helps keep the outside critters, outside!
  • Spider bites are nothing to be casual about. I would get a professional exterminator to treat your camper. I know about this personally, as I was bitten by a brown recluse spider, ended up in the hospital for a week and seeing a doctor for a couple months afterward. Tissue on the back of my leg died and the doctor was worried about damage to veins and arteries. Fortunately that didn't happen, but I got medical treatment within about 24 hours of being bitten and he said that was a saving grace. I still have a major scar on the back of my leg after 20 years.

In Minnesota?? Or, were you down south then. I didn't think we had any dangerous insects around here. (Except like was said, West Nile from a mosquito bite.)

No, I got bit in Phoenix, AZ, but I lived in Southern Illinois at the time and they were also there. When people move to different areas of the country, they can and do take the spiders with them, and they can live in the colder climates if they just stay in the house. So it is possible that houses in MN do have the brown recluse. They are very small, and as the name suggests, they hide behind things. They are not aggressive, but if you roll onto them while sleeping, etc. they will bite.

And in my neck of the northwoods, we have lots of deer ticks which carry lime disease.

Yes, I forget about Lime Disease . We do not have a lot of deer ticks around here but, we have a few. It's always good to take precautions.
  • In my opinion you should hire an exterminator team to get rid of spiders and mosquitoes. One more thing, before hiring an exterminator team makes sure that the exterminator is professional or not. A professional exterminator team like exterminator davis team knows proper way to eradicate spider and pest infestation from our homes. I hope the information I have provided is helpful.
  • If it's bad, hire a professional. Although the very first thing I would do is close up the trailer during the day with no lights on. Then wait until it's good and dark outside and go back into the trailer with a flashlight. You might just spot your culprit or culprits hanging on a wall or in a corner somewhere. A quick swat of a rolled up newspaper might just solve your current problem.
  • We have had good luck with no pest strips hung in the storage compartments. We get them at the farm store and get the generic brand as they are cheaper than the Home Defense brand. It was amazing how many dead critters we had in the compartments when we didn't think we had any problems. These strips are not a good idea for the living area while you are occupying the trailer. But you could put them out for a few days then air the trailer out before you use it.
