Inflatable kayaks

I'm sort of kicking the idea around of getting a couple of kayaks.

No room & don't want to roof carry anyway so that type is not under consideration. A sit in is much preferred over a sit on. Not looking at the cheap 'toy' type either but not after a top of the line 4 figure expedition type.

Any experience with something in the middle somewhere?
  • We have the same as "sayoung". It's the two seat Hobie. It's well built and you can walk on the floor. It has a hatch up front for carrying personal items and the pedal drive system. You can pedal the boat or row. It also has an available sail. It's about $2800.00. It folds into a bag about 40" x 30" 15" and weighs about 75 pounds. The pedal drive system does not fit in the bag.

  • We have a 2place Hobi inflatable kayak.Cant beat the quality but they aren't cheap.Folds up into its own suitcase.
We have the drive system so its easy to get around with, much easier to peddle than to use the oars.
  • Very happy with our Advanced Elements tandem. Check out their website, they have many different models.
  • Sea Eagle for inflatables seem to stand behind their product from what we've seen of others comments upon receipt of them (one couple got two and there was a small issue with one component and they had replacement within days) if any issues, and RV-dreams have lots of comments on them as mentioned above as well.

We'd go with this company if we give up our Perception and hubby's Fishing Hunter one, as we've discussed for ease of transporting.
  • We bought the West Marine inflatable kayak. Works OK, but slow to setup even with an electric pump. Found it to be very slow in the water and had to go back ashore to add inflation after 20 minutes. Cooler water temperature caused air pressure to drop. It came in a huge bag that will hold our PFDs paddles pumps and kayak. Very heavy.
  • Go to this website...they have several different Sea Eagle inflatables they use and like.... plus there is a click ad for their supplier on the page.

www.rv-dreams.com look for the journal or forum pages.

Here's one where he writes about the SeaEagles

  • Check out West Marine. They have both a one person and two person model. I have the two person and find it works quite well. Packs into a suitcase size bag that I keep in the storage area under the bed.
  • The latest MOTORHOME Mag (April issue) has an ad for Sea Eagle RazorLite 393rl..all drop stitched kayak, I have only had /used the rotomolded yaks. It looks interesting...
You can check it out at www.seaeagle.com
    dimensions 12'10" L X 27" w holds 1 adult/ 500 lbs capacity,
    weighs 28 lbs, 4-6 mph..
  • Google Advanced Elements...well built, top notch materials. Dealers sell last years models on Ebay, save some bucks. Five years on mine, very happy. :) :)
