I've used nitrogen to pressurize containers that had radios in them that ran for years without service. I'm talking radios built in the 40's and haven't been turned off. Ever. When I depressurized the vessels and pulled the radios out, they were as good as the day they were assembled. Including the wiring insulation.
So, I think the advantage to nitrogen is that the rubber is going to not oxidize and deteriorate like it would with just plain old air. Might not matter in a tire who's life span is maybe 7 or 8 years tops, but for those radios. They were preserved.
