Thought I'd start a new topic for Gate Guards to use for comments. Like the moderator suggested-keep technical stuff, recipes, mechanical, etc. where they belong. Lets hear from everyone sucking down that caliche dust.

Our present location is not nearly as dusty as some of our previous locations. We are out farther from the heavily traveled roads. Hardly any traffic goes by us and we have had very few sales people out here. Our next location will be off a black top road..maybe not much dust there also.

No complaint here, as we are off a paved road and the company has a water truck come in daily to water the road to the site and the work areas near us. Still only working 10/hr days, but may go 24/7 in a couple of weeks. No salesmen visit this site, darn it, no freebies this winter...:B.. Will be at this gate till at least 3/12 and maybe longer.

Will arrive at the Whitsett Tx GGS yard tomorrow and hope to get a gate by the first of the week (if not before). We are rookies and looking forward to the experience. We have been following several blogs and have asked for and received help from some of you. Thanks!

We had some pipeline workers who watered occasionally; but they're gone now. Thank goodness we got rain last nite. It's chilly and overcast here this a.m. We are having to work two 12 hour shifts because we get an occasional vehicle at nite. We haven't figured out how to hear the bell when we're sleepimg. Or we're just afraid we'll miss it.BTW-anyone able to get the spell check to work here?

Yesterday there were 4 at the Whisett yard waiting for gates, but I heard there are Pioneer gates available. From what I hear Pioneer will occasionally do drug, alcohol, firearms searches and this includes the Gate Guard's RV...

We had a gate in LA with Shell/Halliburton and they did cater. They ran 2 shifts and had catering for each shift. We had more food than we could handle.

They are laying down our rig in about 2 weeks, for the remainder of hunting season. We have a whole bunch of holes waiting fracing, but don't know how they are going to handle it during hunting season. May be a very quiet 3 months.....LOL.

Believe me I don't want to be on the pad with the frac happening and the sand castles about 30 foot from us. Very loud and dusty. The noise wasn't too bad inside (we are really good insulated) but ouitside wow. Didn't have a problem sleeping.....1 at a time. Tomorrow night I will have my wife back in my bed.

Well we are sitting pretty good. Nice lot, no snakes to be seen, of course we have seen no wild life either. We can keep the gate open all the time as we are fenced off all the way around, no one here but the two of us. Paved road, paved entrance to the lot WOW.

30 days really makes a big change....the frac crew moved in next door "RIGHT NEXT DOOR" the traffic is non-stop, but it will be over in another 24 hours....thank heaven. Don't want to be right on the pad next time we have a frac crew.

Before anyone gets all hyper about these photo's I did get permission to post these non imposeing pictures. I just thought they were interesting.

We plan to go to work the end of this month or early Nov for GGS. Have been treated very well and some changes for the better have happened in the Western district to make all happier.

Not saying other are not good or as good but we have worked for over two years with them and plan to stay. We do hope they up the daily rate but for the time being we will stay and just try and ask for more!!!

Don/Shar, it looks like GGS has been eliminating a few problem employees lately and everything is running good. They have some new gates and are putting people to work quickly.
