It has no rim to catch dirt. You open the lid and you see holes around the top where the rim would be. It flushes so well and the ball seems differant and I think does a better job of shutting than the old one. I had a Dometic model 110 and this is a direct replacement. Took less the 15 minutes out and in. For us older group, I think you would like the higher seat. got it online for around $140+ship
