Insurance Co. uses VIN

What do you do when your insurance company doesn't know how to describe or rate your RV? We're buying a class B on a Chevy chassis and the VIN # says Chevrolet Express Van. At this point they are calling it a modified vehicle instead of an RV (or motorhome).

Should we be worried or look into how to fix this?

  • Even though I own a Class A GBM, the title states it's a John Deer Motor Home ( thats the chassis manufacture ). I finally own me a DEER! LOL

My insurance company (USAA) uses Winnebago's VIN, not Ford's VIN. Look for a Finished Vehicle VIN label from Roadtrek, furnish that VIN instead of Chevrolet's VIN.

You have to this at the title and registration phase as well, because the insurance company must issue policies for the vehicle registered.
    Thank you!

If they list it as a Express Van and you accept it as that. When you have a claim that is what they will pay on.

Is this picture anywhere on the Class B? If so, that would, in my mind, make it an RV...

    Yes.

I have a small Class 6 International tractor for pulling a 5th whl trailer in a model number that State Farm's computer system says doesn't exist. I sent them pictures and a copy of the registration. Somehow they got it in their computer system and insured it at what I thought was a reasonable rate. They're happy and I'm happy.

Well, they're happy - just don't know if we are...

What's the registration say? That should be used by the insurance company, not whatever they think it is
    Don't have the registration yet...

What's funny is when I called them with the hypothetical that we might buy it they were able to look up and find Roadtrek. Now that we gave them the VIN they can't connect the dots. :R
