Insurance Rates Changes For Claims

Hit low hanging roof at rest stop, knocked off awning. Have roof damage and fiberglass siding damage. Over $10,000 for insurance repairs. Not fixed Yet. Two weeks later I turned into my drive way and hit neighbors car with motorhome rear corner, long overhang. $3600 more damage to his car only. No dollar amount for RV fiberglass damage. What would insurance do if I file another claim for car damage? Should I pay the car repair myself and keep insurance out of it? Has anyone had this happen?
  • If you do not engage your insurance company and choose to settle yourself, you will then assume any and subsequent claims from this incident.
  • It's a risky business to keep "incidents" from an insurance company...did you know that many obligate you to report such incidents whether you file a claim or not? Failing to report can actually go against you much more seriously than making a claim to begin with.

No need to ask me how I know this....:M

If there's any chance AT ALL that they could find out about this second incident without you telling them, I recommend you file the claim.
  • They will let me renew even after the first claim. It is the second one that I am worried about.
  • I would file the insurance claim due to the amount. They probably won't let you renew anyway.
