The Jeep transmission and differentials seem to be far more sophisticated than that with power being sent to the wheels in need very efficiently.jolooote wrote:Lockers are absolutely not needed with a Jeep GC. My older model uses the Quadra Trac system, On-demand. It utilizes a gerotor coupling in the Quadra-Trac II transfer case and in the Vari-Lok front and rear progressive axles to send torque to the front driveshaft and/or from side-to-side within each axle when wheel slippage occurs; includes low-range (2:72:1) single-lever transfer case mode operation.
Make sure its a REAL 4x4 with 'LOCKERS'! If not, its only a 'All wheel drive' car in which only 1 front & 1 rear wheel drives if traction is lost. I'd look into a Used 'Range Rover'. They are the best riding and the most capable REAL 4x4's in the world! Used prices are much better than Jeep.
Newer versions use electronic traction control, the very best in the industry.
As for the OP's question, research carefully about the diesel version; it has been plagued with problems, underperformance and reliability. Check with your dealer to make certain they can service it for you.
I didn't know the diesels were beset by problems. I'll have to look into that. I don't have a "dealer" so I would need to be able to bring it into any dealer around the country. Hopefully, they'll have that sorted out by 2017 but if they don't, I'd be almost as happy with a gasoline powered vehicle. I just like the idea of filling up tank at the same time as the coach and getting 600 miles of range out of it.
