Interesting Article on RVers & RV Parks

Maybe not the best summer read on the beach, but here's a couple of quotes from the article:

Greenhouse gas accounting confirms that actual RV travel creates a lower carbon footprint than comparable air/drive/hotel vacations.

Fuel prices would have to triple to make RVing more expensive for a family of four than other forms of travel.

Water conservation: A standard RV uses only 27 gallons of water/day, whereas a household consumes 150 gallon/day.

Wonder how the study's analysts figured out the water consumption figures? Last I heard avg. daily water consumption was about 65 gals per person. Maybe they just took the average RV's water tank capacity and extrapolated a figure which may or may not take into account use of water outside the RV.

I can state from real world use. Our 65 gallon water tank will last three adults, three days.

  • and I don't have to listen to some drunk running up and down the hall ways yelling and screaming. sorry I know some of you have heard drunks in camp grounds but so far I've been lucky.
  • I think it comes out a wash if you keep the RV for 10+ years but sleeping in my own bed and following my own departure schedule without being probed every time I need to travel is priceless
  • They are ignoring all of the other costs associated with an RV, mainly the purchase price. Take $30k (or more)then add the fuel costs and space fees then you might have a fair comparison.
  • Not sure about the fuel price part. I could put together a pretty good vacation with airfare and hotel for $30k.
